The profound connection between accessibility and artificial intelligence

Artificial Intelligence Beginner

Exploring the symbiotic relationship between AI and accessibility, this talk unveils how artificial intelligence is intertwined with disability. It highlights AI's ability to perceive, process, and generate sensory data, transforming the world of accessibility for a more inclusive future.

When the majority of humans have a particular sensory ability, those who do not, are often considered to have a disability. When technology is able to bridge that gap, it is called an assistive technology. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is poised to increase the quality and quantity of assistive technologies.

However, when all humans are lacking a sensory ability, such as memory, we don't think of it as a disability. Yet, as technology can augment a sensation, why is that different than an assistive technology?

It benefits everyone to personalize technology to augment our senses. Accessibility should not be considered a technology to help the disabled population. It should be considered as a personal assistive technology for all.

Today we will explore:

  • The 3 types of senses AI and humans are trying to achieve
  • The progress AI is making in understanding and generative output
  • The implications of bridging more of the gaps
  • The data collection we are sorely lacking
  • The future products that will come out of these efforts

In essence, this talk emphasizes AI's transformative role in shifting paradigms, breaking barriers, and driving inclusive growth in the accessibility domain."
