The Student Early Alert system is designed to equip student advisors with a dashboard that identifies students who may be at risk of not successfully graduating. Developed by the California State University Chancellor's Office team, specifically Yanan Zhang and Subash D’Souza, the system calculates student risk levels by analyzing data from the campus's Canvas platform and PeopleSoft (PS) student enrollment records. This comprehensive risk assessment also considers the student’s academic standing in the PS database. The goal is to provide advisors with a tool to evaluate students holistically and take timely action where necessary.
Key dashboard features include:
- Trends of high-risk students within the school.
- Lists of high-risk students by school and their trends over time.
- Lists of high-risk students by class, including trend data.
- High-risk student lookup functionality for quick access to detailed student profiles.
These insights allow advisors to identify patterns, monitor student performance, and provide necessary interventions to support student success.
