Data Career Development Beginner

A candid journey through 8 years in data — continuous internships, student leadership, navigating H-1B sponsorship, ongoing self-learning, and persistence. Now Head of Data Analytics at Meshy, a global leader in 3D AI, I will share actionable strategies for securing internships, mastering interviews, and overcoming early-career challenges to accelerate your career.

Breaking into the data industry requires both persistence and skill. Today, eight years in, I lead Data Analytics at Meshy, the most popular 3D AI tool among game developers, as recognized by A16Z games. I’ll share:

  • Leveraging resources in college: Experienced as the Vice President of two student clubs laid the foundation for team-building, leadership, and strategic thinking; utilized university career resources and sought guidance from mentors to shape early career decisions.
  • Resume and interview tips: How to create/update resume and polish interview skills.
  • Hands-on early momentum: I interned non-stop throughout all four years of college—part-time during the school year and full-time in summers—building real-world experience and confirming my passion for data, while also clarifying what I didn’t want (consulting wasn’t for me).
  • Visa hurdles: Navigating OPT and H-1B sponsorship, earning the company’s first-ever sponsorship through performance.
  • Continued learning: I have pivoted my career and consistently developed new skill sets to remain relevant and create impact.
  • Early career advice: Avoid perfectionism and maintain visibility with leadership.
Attendees will gain practical insights into getting internships, mastering interviews, and navigating early-career challenges with resilience and adaptability.
